The View From the Outside, With a Case of the Blues

Share

Regarding “He’s Happy to Have the Blues” by Jerry Crowe (Calendar, April 13): How ironic that on the same day The Times runs an article outlining Isaac Tigrett’s global aspirations for the House of Blues, I am left at the door to his venue, tickets in hand, unable to see the Bruce Hornsby show due to overcrowding. Perhaps Tigrett should take a break from his global plans and focus on Sunset Boulevard.

From the candid chatter of my fellow outcasts, I gathered that this was not an isolated incident for the club. How, after two years in business, does a venue of this magnitude not have a grasp on its own capacity? Crowe’s article must have omitted Tigrett’s planned expansion into the airline business as he’s nailed the first necessary component--overbooking.

As far as Tigrett’s goal of making the House of Blues “the greatest live music hall in America,” I unfortunately can only comment on the exterior, where, quite frankly, the view stinks.
