Paul and Mary will not be there.

But Puff the Magic Dragon may make an appearance at Peter Yarrow’s benefit concert in Ventura on Tuesday.

Yarrow, of the trio Peter, Paul and Mary, is best known for such songs as “Puff the Magic Dragon” and the new Hanukkah favorite “Light One Candle.” He has long supported causes that promote social justice.

Proceeds from the Ventura concert will support Teaching Tolerance, a program sponsored by the United Jewish Appeal Federation of Ventura County, to fight anti-Semitism, racism and violence and to promote understanding among youth.

This year, Teaching Tolerance will provide trips to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles for more than 2,800 seventh- and eighth-graders from public schools in Ojai, Oxnard, Ventura and other local communities. Organizers hope the concert will raise enough money to send as many as 3,500 students next year.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Temple Beth Torah, 7620 Foothill Road in Ventura. Tickets, which can be bought at the door, will be $30.

Tickets are available for contributors, donors and patrons at $50, $100 and $500. They include preferred seating and an autographed compact disc.

For more information or to purchase tickets, call the United Jewish Appeal Federation of Ventura County at (805) 647-7800.
