Park Police in Capital May Get Electric Bicycles
Associated Press
WASHINGTON —
Instead of huffing and puffing up Capitol Hill or around the Washington Monument, U.S. Park Police may soon get electric bicycles.
Bob Jarcho of the Interior Department’s acquisition office said a tryout of the Police PowerBike is under consideration for tourist areas of the capital.
Electric bicycles with sirens and lights can be pedaled like regular bikes or get a boost from a rechargeable battery below the seat. The battery recharges itself as the bicycle coasts or when the rider pedals.
