2nd ADM Exec Steps Forward, Fortune Says: Chief Executive Dwayne Andreas turned to friends in the CIA for assistance in investigating suspected sabotage by Japanese lysine rival Ajinomoto Co.--an investigation, later referred to the FBI, that led to former Vice President Mark Whitacre’s emergence as a mole in the long-running price-fixing case, the magazine said. The anticipated testimony, offered in exchange for immunity from prosecution, could bolster a Justice Department probe damaged by problems with Whitacre’s credibility. A Chicago federal judge is seeking more information before giving conditional approval of a $45-million settlement by Decatur, Ill.-based Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. and other defendants in a lawsuit by their lysine customers.
