360 Communications Co. to Buy ICN Cellular: The Chicago-based firm said it agreed to buy Independent Cellular Network’s cellular operations in four states for about $517 million in stock and debt. The former cellular unit of Sprint Corp. said it signed a letter of intent to acquire Chicago-based ICN’s interests in 20 markets, representing 3.2 million potential customers in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. ICN, operating under the brand name WirelessOne Network, provides service to more than 120,000 customers in the four-state area. It will continue to provide cellular service in Florida. The transaction is expected to be completed this year. 360 Communications stock closed at $24.125, up 25 cents on the New York Stock Exchange.
