Construction to Begin on 2-Mile Bike Path

Construction is expected to begin soon on a bicycle path in Westlake Village along a two-mile stretch of Lindero Canyon Road.

The path will wind its way from Thousand Oaks Boulevard to Agoura Road, officials said, and construction is expected to take about two months.

It will be paid for by Tampa, Fla.-based Richland Westlake Ltd., the developer of the Westlake North Specific Plan, a large tract of commercial- and residential-zoned land off Lindero Canyon Road.

Westlake Village has shown little interest in a proposal by Calabasas to pool funds to construct a regional bike path alongside the Ventura Freeway from Calabasas to the Ventura County line.

The Calabasas City Council recently voted to pay a consultant $305,000 to provide plans, specifications and estimates for construction of the trail, which would connect existing bicycle lanes.

Calabasas will contribute $54,000 to hire a planner to oversee the project, while the city of Los Angeles has pledged $10,800, and the county, $20,000, officials said.

Bob Theobold, Westlake Village’s planning director, said his city is not interested in helping to pay for a project outside its jurisdiction.
