Cisco Buys Precept Software Stake: The world’s largest maker of computer network equipment said it plans to help develop software to send video and sound through computer networks. Cisco Systems Inc. did not disclose the size of the stake or investment in Palo Alto-based Precept Software Inc. San Jose-based Cisco said it will sell Precept’s software with its own equipment starting in the third quarter. Precept’s software controls the flow of computer information that represents video and sound. Its technology is used in videoconferencing and other areas. Cisco usually invests in or acquires companies for technologies it can’t develop on its own.
