Program to Honor Jewish War Veterans
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Bernard Becker Post 123 in Thousand Oaks will hold a dinner and dance June 29 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza.
Thousand Oaks Mayor Andy Fox is to host the event acknowledging the military service of thousands of Jewish war veterans. Other guests of honor will include the officers and members of Post 123.
During World War II alone, Jewish members of the U.S. military received more than 50,000 awards, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, Air Medal, Silver Star and Purple Heart, said Irv Wasserman, Post 123 commander.
Jewish War Veterans provides hospital, rehabilitation and other assistance for veterans and their families. The group also provides summer camp scholarships for children from low-income families. This year, the group plans to award two $500 scholarships to Conejo Valley high school students.
