On to Pittsburgh: Edward Cumming, assistant conductor of the Pacific Symphony, has been appointed assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Cumming, 38, a native of Oakland, joined the Pacific Symphony in 1993 and has led the orchestra’s family concerts, conducted the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (based at the Orange County High School of the Arts in Los Alamitos), and been music director of the Pacific Symphony Institute at Cal State Fullerton, where he also has taught conducting and music appreciation. A search is underway for Cumming’s replacement.
