Cost-Saving Proposal May Mean 3 Layoffs
In yet another cost-saving move, Ventura County Chief Administrative Officer Lin Koester is proposing a second reorganization of his office that could include three layoffs.
Koester’s proposal calls for eliminating three senior administrative analyst positions beginning July 1. In addition, two temporary positions, which were funded with federal earthquake assistance money, will not be renewed.
Annual savings from the reorganization are estimated at between $177,800 and $214,600, according to a staff report. This is in addition to the $78,700 annual savings achieved by Koester’s elimination of an assistant chief administrator position last fall.
“Lin has been very diligent in taking the lead in downsizing,” said Supervisor Frank Schillo. “This is what we have to do.”
County officials, however, said it is possible that the three employees whose jobs are being eliminated could be transferred to another department in need of additional personnel.
The Board of Supervisors will consider approving Koester’s proposal at its meeting Tuesday.
