Airport, Deervale Plan Are Topics for Wachs

City Councilman Joel Wachs will discuss a lawsuit recently filed against Burbank Airport as well as efforts to halt a proposed 80-acre development at a community meeting Wednesday sponsored by the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn.

Both topics have been Valley hot-button issues of late.

Citing noise and traffic concerns, the city of Los Angeles in late April sued to halt construction of a larger terminal at Burbank Airport.

“The Burbank Airport wants to double and triple its flights,” said homeowners group President Richard H. Close. “The city’s lawsuit is necessary to protect area homes, schools and businesses.”

Homeowners have also mobilized to combat Shawbeth Inc.’s proposed Deervale development, a gated community of 24 homes that would overlook the Valley.

Wachs, who represents parts of North Hollywood and Van Nuys, will also talk about efforts to reduce inefficient city spending. Wednesday’s meeting will begin at 8 p.m. at Glendale Federal Bank, 13300 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks.
