Nation IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Gingrich May Face Fired Historian’s Suit
Christina Jeffrey, who was fired as House historian, said she may file a lawsuit against House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.). Gingrich fired her from the job amid charges of anti-Semitism. The speaker, who hired Jeffrey in January 1995, fired her a week later in a message left on her answering machine. On Nov. 30, he apologized to her and said he would try to find her consulting work with the historian’s office. Jeffrey, a faculty member at Kennesaw State College near Atlanta, said she had an agreement with Gingrich that expires this week.
