Beverly Hills Cop

His detective work takes him into the heart of some of Beverly Hills’ most notorious cases: the Menendez brothers, the Billionaire Boys Club, even Zsa Zsa Gabor’s famous slap. . . . (B4) But the glamour hasn’t gone to Leslie Zoeller’s head. He still lives in Moorpark, where he went to community college about 25 years ago. And he still listens to the same old music--Led Zeppelin and the Eagles--as he makes his daily commute.

Peaceful Protest

Environmentalists don’t mind farmers recycling the plastic sheets they use when fumigating their strawberry fields (B1). . . . But they do wish they would stop using methyl bromide. . . . In fact, the Environmental Defense Center of Santa Barbara will visit this weekend’s California Strawberry Festival to hand out flyers warning of the chemical’s dangers. Don’t worry about nasty confrontations with farmers; the protesters have permission to be there.

Cookie Queen

The ultimate supermom of the Reagan years will visit The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks on Tuesday . . . Debbi Fields--that’s right, Mrs. Fields--will spend an hour at her cookie shop at 2:30 p.m. That particular shop is the ninth oldest of the 152 owned by the chain; more than 600 are franchised worldwide. It’s also in the top 12% in sales. . . . One thing you should know: Mrs. Fields, mother of five and 1980s phenomenon, no longer owns the company. It’s owned by “a group of bankers,” says a spokesman. But that wouldn’t make a very appetizing name, would it?
