Ventura Mayor Jack Tingstrom is in stable condition and resting comfortably at Community Memorial Hospital after suffering a minor heart attack, hospital officials said Monday.

“He is doing very well,” said nurse Carol Dimse. “He is stable and in very good spirits.”

Tingstrom, 60, was rushed to the hospital by Ventura firefighters Sunday morning after suffering chest pains. He was admitted to the cardiac care unit, where he underwent a balloon angioplasty to correct the blockage of a coronary artery, Dimse said.

Dimse described the procedure as a “routine invasive procedure” for blocked coronary arteries. It was done under local anesthesia, and Tingstrom was awake and alert throughout the procedure, which typically lasts one to two hours, Dimse said.

Tingstrom will remain under observation in the cardiac care unit for the next three to four days, Dimse said. No phone calls or flowers are allowed in the unit, she said.

City Manager Donna Landeros visited Tingstrom briefly Monday morning.

“He is experiencing no discomfort and looks forward to a speedy recovery,” Landeros said.

Councilwoman Rosa Lee Measures presided over Monday’s City Council meeting.
