Farmers’ Market to Open Downtown

Share

A new farmers’ market will be up and running in Moorpark in time for the summer harvest. The City Council voted last week to hire a coordinator for the market, which is scheduled to open June 15 and be held every Saturday afternoon at the downtown Metrolink station.

The council had abandoned a similar proposal two years ago after criticism from downtown merchants who feared the market would hurt their businesses.

After a recent survey of downtown merchants showed support for the idea, the City Council decided it was time to try again, said Councilman Bernardo Perez.

City officials expect to bring in about 30 vendors and said they hope the market will draw people downtown.
