Lockheed Martin Receives Submarine Systems Contract: The aerospace giant said that under the agreement, potentially worth $1 billion, its Federal Systems subsidiary in Manassas, Va., will provide communications and intelligence systems for the Navy’s new attack submarine. Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed is to deliver the first system in 2000, when the base period of the contract expires, and has three options for more systems. The new sub is scheduled to begin sea trials in 2004. The subcontractors are Northrop Grumman Corp. of Los Angeles and Raytheon Corp. of Lexington, Mass. Most of the work will be done in Manassas and at a Raytheon plant in Portsmouth, R.I.
