City Approves Project to Bury Utility Lines
A $45.2-million plan to move utility lines underground in various areas of the city over the next five years won the City Council’s backing this week.
The 15 projects identified in the utility conversion plan include one in the Anaheim Resort Area that will be carried out in conjunction with the widening of the Santa Ana Freeway. Other scheduled projects will affect Ball Road, Western Avenue, Lincoln Avenue and Euclid Street.
Since 1990, the city has spent $25.3 million to place utility lines underground in 11 projects. At the current level of funding, it will take about 50 years to convert all overhead utilities in Anaheim, officials estimate.
