Recording Deed
I recently purchased, for the account of my employer, a small mineral interest in L.A. County that was part of a larger mineral transfer. In an attempt to place this deed of record I called the recorder’s office and requested recording fees and information.
I received back from the county the unrecorded document, my company’s check for $22 and a litany of reasons checked on a form indicating why the instrument was not recorded. I then spoke with a recording agent who explained the issues. Having recorded similar items in every Western state, I politely stated, “It’s difficult to record things in California.” He said, “Yes it is, that is why you should hire an attorney to advise you when recording in California.”
The world is moving headlong into a quagmire of twisted complexity and convolution and California is proudly leading the way.
