Police claimed one of their biggest recent successes when they arrested alleged Mafia boss Giovanni Brusca, accused of setting off the bomb that killed a leading anti-Mafia judge in 1992. Brusca, 36, is believed to have succeeded Salvatore “Toto” Riina as the Mafia’s “boss of bosses.” He was arrested along with his brother Vincenzo near the city of Agrigento in southwestern Sicily. Mafia turncoats say Brusca masterminded the highway bombing that killed Giovanni Falcone, then Italy’s leading anti-Mafia judge, along with his wife and three bodyguards.
