Volunteers are being sought to place 3,000 flags and crosses on the graves of veterans at Loma Vista Memorial Park on Saturday.
The decorations need to be erected in preparation for the cemetery’s 57th annual Fullerton Memorial Day Observance on Monday.
This year’s event will salute the U.S. Merchant Marines. U.S. merchant ships have carried supplies to American fighting troops, and nearly 6,800 merchant soldiers have been killed in action.
The program, which is free to the public, will begin at 10 a.m.
Volunteers are asked to bring wheelbarrows, wagons or carts to Loma Vista Memorial Park, 701 E. Bastanchury Road, at 8 a.m. They also are needed to remove and store the flags Tuesday.
