U.S. Postal Service Probing Lloyd’s: Lloyd’s of London confirmed that an inquiry into possible mail fraud by its agents has been initiated by the U.S. Postal Service and that some of its U.S. investors have received questionnaires from the federal agency. The London-based insurance market said the questionnaires showed “marked similarity” to earlier questionnaires circulated by U.S. authorities looking into whether the market had breached securities regulations. Lloyd’s investors, called “names,” have approached both state and federal authorities with their claims of wrongdoing by the market’s agents. The U.S. Attorney’s office in New York said it had no comment on the Wall Street Journal report that it is using the U.S. Postal Service to gather evidence.
