Fashion Student Takes Gold Medal

For the second year in a row, an Orange Coast College fashion student brought home a top award from the California Community College Fashion Symposium in Oakland in March.

Thanh Nguyen, a 27-year-old Santa Ana resident, won the gold medal in the men’s sportswear category for his ski outfit. At last year’s ceremony, OCC’s Cecile Thi Ta captured a first-place award in the women’s business suit category.

Nguyen developed an interest in design while working as a tailor in Vietnam after graduating from high school. After moving to the United States, he enrolled at OCC’s program to get additional training.

“I have the dream of some day owning my own fashion design studio,” he said.
