Church Puts Out Call to Bike Safety Rodeo

Share

Bike-riding cowpokes might want to wheel on over to the Bike Safety Rodeo at a Simi Valley church, where kids can pick up bike safety tips, register their bikes and compete in a bicycle rodeo.

From 9 until 11 a.m. today the front parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church will take on the look of an asphalt rodeo.

Volunteers from the Aid Assn. for Lutheran Branch 3919 will provide bike safety checkups and distribute bicycle safety pamphlets and coloring books. Simi Valley Police Explorers will also register bicycles for $1 each.

For kids who find risk more of a thrill than bike safety, the bicycle rodeo promises to test young riders’ nerves and derring-do along with their cycling skills.

Rodeo events include pedaling like mad for 60 feet and then trying to stop on a dime, and navigating a bicycle obstacle course.

For information or directions to the church at 2949 Alamo St., call Mike Kerney at (805) 527-8675.
