Catholicism and Exclusivity

* Re “Priest at Catholic School Protests Resignation Request,” May 17.

The Catholic hierarchy preaches diversity and implies that those who disagree with its multiculturalism are racist or evil. Now it is the archdiocese that fails to live by its own standard by forcing the resignation of a Catholic high school religion teacher who belongs to a Christian but non-Catholic church.

The teacher apparently did nothing wrong but join a church whose view does not match that of the Catholic Church. The archdiocese leadership, which teaches respect of diversity to the point of creating segregated cultural and linguistic enclaves in its own parishes, shudders at the thought one of its own may actually practice the diversity and tolerance it demands of everyone else.

The archdiocese would have inclusiveness apply to everyone but itself.
