Major Order About to Be Placed for 747s, Report Says: British Airways is prepared to order Boeing Co. jumbo jets worth $2 billion, its largest purchase for five years, London’s Sunday Times newspaper said. It said the carrier wants between 10 and 15 Boeing 747-400 jumbos to replace its fleet of 747-100s, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines. An airline spokeswoman declined to comment. “It is all speculation at the moment,” she said.
