Apple Anticipates Losses, Lower Sales: Apple Computer Inc. said it expects to report operating losses through at least the rest of the calendar year as it struggles to restructure, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Cupertino, Calif.-based computer maker said it also expects sales to be lower than year-ago levels through the end of 1996. Apple reported a loss of $740 million in its second quarter ended March 29. Apple also expects its gross margin to remain below year-ago levels through at least the third quarter of fiscal 1996. Apple’s gross margin narrowed to 9% in the fiscal second quarter from almost 21% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 1995. Apple is trying to recover from weak demand for its machines, a reorganization of the business and the firing of 2,800 employees.
