Experience Is Not Always an Asset

Share

An item in the May 19 “Real Estate Q&A;” concerned a seller who interviewed three agents, chose a very successful one and then was not satisfied. The seller learned later that others were unhappy with the agent’s service as well.

I’ve been a Realtor for 20 years and hear all sorts of “horror” stories from dissatisfied sellers and buyers. Most say the same thing. After listing, or buying, from an extremely “successful” agent, they rarely, if ever, saw or spoke to the agent again. The job is generally taken over by assistants who have no personal connection.

I know agents who, when seeing who the listing agent is, will try not to show the property. They know that trying to get a return phone call or any cooperation is pretty rare.

Over the years, I have found that either a brand new agent or one not quite so successful is a far better bargain. In fact, while looking for a second home out of state, I purposely requested a new agent. I knew I would get the best service because the agent would have little else but my needs to be concerned with.
