Seagram to Air Liquor Commercial: Jos. E. Seagram & Sons said it is airing a commercial for its Crown Royal whiskey on an NBC affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas, further breaking a 48-year-old voluntary ban on liquor advertising on television. In a statement, Seagram said the voluntary ban penalizes the spirits industry, since beer and wine face no restrictions. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and other groups that deal with alcohol abuse are concerned about how the commercials will affect underage viewers.
