Suit Against Writers Guild Over ‘Cable Guy’ Dropped: A writer/producer who alleged he was unfairly denied a screenwriting credit on the new Jim Carrey film, has dropped a lawsuit challenging how the Writers Guild of America determines screen credits. The suit, filed last month by Judd Apatow against the guild, was withdrawn Monday after it had been transferred from Los Angeles County Superior Court to U.S. District Court. Apatow’s attorney, Robert Marshall, said the suit could be refiled citing federal claims. Apatow had argued that he deserved screen credit, but a guild arbitration panel determined that Lou Holtz Jr. was the sole author. The film, which has received its share of negative reviews, will be released by Columbia Pictures on Friday.
