Parents, Awake!

Share
JUDITH HAYES, a Chatsworth mother of two, talks about parental responsibility

Parents, wake up! We are losing our children to drugs, alcohol, nicotine, sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS, murder and suicide. How much worse can it get?

What can we do to stop this madness?

We are absolutely responsible for training, disciplining and loving our children. Don’t expect public schools to do it; they are already understaffed, underpaid and demoralized. Each parent must take full responsibility for the actions of his or her own offspring. It’s not enough just to provide them a bed and food. They need you, a caring, devoted parent to hear their pain, frustrations, confusion and fear. If they find no safe haven at home, they will run elsewhere for comfort, to gangbangers, sexual predators, alcohol and drugs.

And what about love? Our children are a link in the genetic chain of humankind. They deserve all the love and attention we can give. They need our encouragement, empathy, sincere compliments, guidance and wisdom and lots of hugs and kisses.

Take back your proper place of authority as a parent and start supplying the unconditional love and consistent discipline that children must have to become happy, secure, productive citizens, fit to raise the next generation of children.
