Clashes in Turkey Kill 72 Kurdish Rebels, 6 Troops

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey —
Turkish troops backed by air power killed 72 Kurdish rebels and lost six of their own soldiers in some of the fiercest fighting in southeastern Turkey in recent months, security officials said Wednesday.
Air force planes bombed the mountains to cut off possible rebel escape routes in the fighting with Kurdistan Workers Party rebels in several provinces, they said.
