Croats Restore Phone Link to Serb-Held Area

ZAGREB, Croatia —
Telephone links were reestablished Wednesday between the Serb-held region of Eastern Slavonia and the rest of Croatia, another step toward restoring government rule in the region.
A Croatian official marked the occasion by calling the mayor of the Eastern Slavonia town of Vukovar. It was the first phone call that the town has received from government-held Croatia in nearly five years.
