Jurors on Wednesday put in their first full day of deliberations without reaching a verdict in the trial of Richard Allen Davis, accused in the slumber party kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Polly Klaas.

The six-man, six-woman panel got the case Tuesday afternoon from Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Thomas Hastings. The jury was to resume deliberations at 9:30 this morning.

Before retiring for the day, panelists returned to court briefly to ask several largely technical questions relating to discrepancies between the formal charges and the instructions given by Hastings.

Davis, 42, was charged with killing Polly after kidnapping her from her bedroom at knifepoint as she played with two other girls Oct. 1, 1993.

In his confession Davis said he was “toasted” on two quarts of beer and a PCP-laced marijuana cigarette the night of the kidnapping. He said he didn’t know why he took Polly and remembered little until he found himself driving around with her in the car.
