BANGLADESH : Opposition Assured of Support to Rule
From Times Wire Reports
After more than two decades in opposition, the Awami League and its leader, Sheik Hasina Wajed, were assured of power when a third party promised support in the Parliament elected Wednesday. Wajed is the daughter of Sheik Mujibur Rahman, who led the country to independence from Pakistan in 1971 but was slain in 1975. The offer of support came from the center-right Jatiya Party, which may hold the balance of power when the election results are complete.
