Giant Leap Puts Harrison on Olympic Team

Share

Kenny Harrison of Mission Hills was the top qualifier in the triple jump Saturday at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Atlanta.

Harrison won the triple jump with a leap of 59-1 1/4 that would have shattered the American record if not for a tail wind over the legal limit.

Jeff Williams of San Fernando was fourth in the 100 meters, and Marla Runyan, from Camarillo, rallied to finish 10th in the heptathlon.

Williams ran 10.06 and is a leading candidate to make the team as an alternate and run on the 400-meter relay team.

Runyan didn’t qualify but won her heat in the 800 meters and surged after ranking 21st Friday.

Pitchers Randy Wolf (Pepperdine, El Camino Real High), Jim Parque (UCLA, Crescenta Valley High) and Jeff Weaver (Fresno State, Simi Valley High) survived final cuts Saturday and made the U.S. Olympic baseball team.
