Delta Gets Antitrust OK: The Atlanta-based airline said it won U.S. approval and antitrust immunity for a global marketing alliance with Belgian airline Sabena, Swissair and Austrian Airlines. Delta Air Lines Inc. said the alliance agreements establish a legal framework that would give the four carriers the chance to “create a seamless transatlantic air transport system, while retaining their separate corporate and national identities.” The U.S. Department of Transportation, which issued the approval, had given tentative OK to the deal in late May. Delta’s announcement came after last week’s news that American Airlines and British Airways were forging the world’s largest airline alliance. Delta and its European airline partners now jointly market a limited number of transatlantic flights and offer service to about 300 cities around the world. Together the four airlines have 675 aircraft flying 3,513 flights daily.
