L.A. Cellular Moving Office to Anaheim

L.A. Cellular Telephone Co. will be expanding operations and moving into a 100,000-square-foot office complex in Anaheim next month.

The cellular-phone company said it plans to move 700 jobs to the city from offices in Cypress and Cerritos, then expects to create 200 new positions by the end of the year.

City officials said the move is part of a trend by high-technology companies to move into facilities abandoned by the retreating defense industry. The company’s new office, at 5515 E. La Palma Ave., was the home of Hughes Ground Support Systems until 1992, when the company downsized and left the office park.

Anaheim’s redevelopment director, Lisa Stipkovich, said the city’s business attraction program offered L.A. Cellular a host of economic incentives. “They have a lot of jobs and they are good-paying jobs,” Stipkovich said. “We lost a lot of jobs with the defense industry going out and we have been looking to attract high-tech jobs back to Anaheim.”
