30-Year Mortgage Rates Ease: Thirty-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 8.30% this week, down from 8.39% last week, according to a national survey released Thursday by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. It was the lowest since June 6, when rates also averaged 8.30%. The 8.39% average last week was the highest since rates were 8.41% during the week ended April 6, 1995. Rates have been on an upward trend since they dropped to 6.94% during the week ended Feb. 15. On one-year adjustable-rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 5.93%, up from 5.91% last week. Fifteen-year mortgages, a popular option for those refinancing mortgages, averaged 7.81% this week, down from 7.90% a week earlier. The rates do not include add-on fees known as points.
