College District Tax Approval

* Re “College Trustees OK Tax Despite Recall Threat,” June 14.

The four trustees who voted for the assessment have abdicated their responsibility to further the role of education in the Los Angeles Community College District. In the corporate world, we fire those who do not perform.

The purpose of the college district is to provide educational opportunities to individuals who would like to earn an AA degree, prepare to enter a four-year college, and / or to provide technical and career programs that meet the needs of students in the business community. Not one cent of the money from the assessment will go to providing educational programs.

In other words, this is for “play” toys [including] an equestrian center, a scoreboard and land for a park for the public. Excuse me, I pay city and county taxes for public parks.

I have spent 26 years in corporate management and as owner of my own consulting company. I have also been an hourly instructor for the college district for 23 years. I have watched the mismanagement of both the educational process and the use of financial resources.

Yes, recall those four trustees and ask the college district to do the job it is supposed to do.
