Church’s Stand Shows Hypocrisy

Re “Baptist Group Rebukes Disney, Urges Boycott,” June 13:

It is a shame the very people who try to teach the word of God are sending the message of hate, discrimination, separatism, bigotry and conditional love. I thought the church was to teach love, understanding and unity. It is time to ignore these vicious individuals who obviously think their way is the only way.

I feel that organizations such as the Southern Baptist Church have no understanding as to what makes up a homosexual person. Their only reference to a gay person is their sexuality.

The majority of gay people live their lives just like any other person. They have major careers and contribute to their community in many responsible ways and even attend local churches that do not discriminate. They are creative and sensitive individuals who do not want anything from anyone but the right to live their lives as normal as possible. We want the right to marry, have children and be an active part of the community. I personally do not see anything wrong with this.

Most gay people keep themselves in the closet because of the real threat of losing their jobs, friends, family members and physical harm. What is the threat? Homosexuality does not rub off; you cannot catch it.

I truly believe it is time for the gay community to stand up for their rights and become a united group. It is time for the gay community to have their own day of boycott. We have been discriminated against far too long. I am asking that all gay people, anyone that supports the gay lifestyle, and parents of gay children pick a day that no dollars be spent. It is time for the world to know just how large and powerful the gay community truly is.

It is a shame that the Southern Baptist church propagates such negative thoughts in the large majority of its members.

Thank you Disneyland for supporting the community. We will definitely support your company with our “gay dollars.”
