FDA Approves Use of Urine Substitute in Tests

Share

Biopool International of Ventura has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration for a new form of the product it markets to ensure the accuracy of its drug tests, the company said.

Approval to use a synthetic urine base for its Sure accuracy test means that those conducting the tests will have much less risk of exposure to the AIDS virus and other diseases present in human urine, the company said. Formerly, the company’s products used processed human urine to test the accuracy of drug tests.

Drug Screening Systems, which develops on-site drug tests, has already placed an order for the product, Biopool said.

“The rapid acceptance of this product, as signified by this initial order, makes us optimistic that additional orders will soon follow not only from DSSI, but from other customers,” said Michael Bick, Biopool’s chairman and CEO.
