Got an antsy kid home from school for the summer? The Thousand Oaks Library may be a good place to visit.
The library’s temporary main branch at 2400 Willow Lane is hosting a series of summer programs for children from preschool age to early teens. Anyone with a library card can obtain free tickets to the events.
“The Great Outdoors of Camp Read S’More,” a story-time series for preschoolers ages 3 to 5, is taking place Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Call the library at 497-6282, ext. 213, for the correct time.
Each 30-minute program will feature songs, rhymes and stories centered around such topics as campfire favorites, forest friends, treetop tales, Native American folklore and other assorted critters.
“Oh A-Camping We Will Go,” a story-time series for children ages 6 to 10, will take place each Wednesday at 4 p.m. until July 24. The 45-minute programs will feature songs, rhymes and creative activities centered around such topics as snakes, campfires and nighttime adventures.
And on July 18, the library will host a summer fiesta featuring performances by dancer and storyteller Alina Mendez. Performances will be at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. at the library’s Newbury Park Branch on 2331 Borchard Road and at 4:15 p.m. at the main library.
Tickets for the fiesta will be available beginning Wednesday. Seating is limited, and preference will be given to children.
For more information, call the library at 497-6282, ext. 213.
