Ricky Jordan, the Seattle Mariners’ injured first baseman, will join the JetHawks today for an eight-day rehabilitation assignment.

He will be the second major league player to serve a rehabilitation assignment with the JetHawks. Chris Bosio pitched a game in May.

Jordan will become the third first baseman on the JetHawk roster, in addition to James Clifford and Shawn Buhner.

Left-handed reliever Jeff Pearce will be placed on the disabled list because of a sprained elbow, but right-hander Tom Szimanski should be able to pitch tonight after missing nearly two weeks because of a shoulder injury.

Pearce said his elbow has bothered him for about two weeks. Manager Dave Brundage said Pearce will be out about 10 days.

“We finally came to the realization that it’s not doing any good to have him out there with a sore arm,” Brundage said.

Tonight’s game in Bakersfield is expected to draw a crowd of nearly 7,000 for the fireworks show. Sam Lynn Ballpark seats 4,500 but sections of foul territory in both corners have been fenced off for fans to sit on the grass.

Sam Lynn Ballpark was the site of the professional debut of JetHawk pitching coach Juan Eichelberger in 1975. Eichelberger, pitching for Reno, gave up two runs in six innings but lost to Bakersfield’s Rick Sutcliffe.
