Ashby, Clark Back on Disabled List

Andy Ashby, the San Diego Padres’ best starting pitcher this season, will go on the 15-day disabled list today for the second time this season because of tendinitis in his right shoulder. Ashby was 8-2 with a 2.93 earned-run average in 15 starts this season. In 101 1/3 innings, he gave up 98 hits, 22 walks and had 59 strikeouts. . . . Texas Ranger first baseman Will Clark is on the disabled list for the second time in a month. Clark was put on the 15-day disabled Thursday, retroactive to June 30, because of a badly bruised right rib cage area. Clark was hit by a pitch on June 29 against the Seattle Mariners. . . . The Montreal Expos put first baseman David Segui on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken thumb.
