Pollution Research and Control Corp., a Glendale maker of pollution detection devices, said a recently acquired subsidiary is about to apply to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for approval for a new medical product.
The product, developed by the firm’s Logan Medical Devices subsidiary, tests patients for asthma. A spokesman for the company said the device relies on proprietary technology to test for nitric oxide, a chemical present in higher amounts in the breath of asthmatics.
In other news, the company said it has acquired Nutek Inc., a Florida-based manufacturer of control panels and printed circuit boards. The purchase price was $900,000 plus the assumption of $900,000 in debt, the company said, adding that Pollution Research paid $250,000 in cash and the sellers financed $150,000, while the balance was supplied by asset-based financing on the assets of Nutek.
The acquisition will provide the company with an in-house supply of components that were previously purchased from outside sources.
