SOUTH CAROLINA : KKK Members Held in Arson at Church

Two members of the Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan face federal arson charges in connection with the June 1995 burning of a predominantly African American church in Greeleyville, S.C., that President Clinton visited last month, the Justice Department announced. Gary Christopher Cox, 23, and Timothy Adron Welch, 24, each face up to 20 years in prison if convicted in the burning of the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. The two men have been in prison since June 1995 on state charges. The counts are based on an eyewitness account by Welch’s brother, Richard.
