Unicord to Sell Tuna Unit, Plants: The company agreed to sell its Bumble Bee tuna business to Questor Partners Fund and its three processing plants to Starkist tuna maker H.J. Heinz Co. Terms weren’t disclosed for the deals, which are designed to keep the Justice Department at bay eight years after it balked at Heinz buying San Diego-based Bumble Bee outright, an analyst said. The arrangement will leave Heinz processing most of the $1.1 billion in tuna sold in the U.S. each year and with a better shot at boosting profit. Heinz and Questor said consumers will benefit because each company will be more efficient. Heinz is paying cash for a Bumble Bee plant in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and smaller plants in Santa Fe Springs and Manta, Ecuador, a spokesman said.
