Motorola Cuts 145 Workers in Texas: Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola Inc., which last week reported disappointing earnings, announced its first layoffs in more than a decade, cutting 145 workers at its semiconductor plant in Austin. The firm cited a continuing decline in business. The Austin employees, who were all hired March 1 or later, were given severance pay and an 18-month extension on health benefits.
