Unit Instruments Doubles Profit

Unit Instruments Inc. more than doubled its profit in the fiscal year ended June 1 on a 36% increase in sales, the maker of semiconductor manufacturing equipment reported.

Net income rose to $7 million, or $1.59 a share, from $3 million, or 69 cents a share, for the previous year. Sales increased to $65.6 million from $48.3 million. For the fourth quarter, net income rose to $1.6 million, or 37 cents a share, from $480,000, or 11 cents a share, for the corresponding period a year ago. Sales were up 15% to $17.8 million from $15.5 million.
