Dynamotion/ATI Lays Off 20 to Cut Costs

Dynamotion/ATI Corp., a manufacturer of drills and routers for the printed circuit board industry, said Wednesday it has laid off 20 workers as part of a reorganization. The company said it expects to post a substantial second-quarter loss when it files its financial report later this month.

The layoffs, ordered as the Santa Ana-based company reduces its router production to slash costs and concentrate on its high-technology drills, cut Dynomotion/ATI’s work force to 80, a spokesman said.

The company’s machines are used by electronics manufacturers to cut and shape circuit boards and to accurately drill the thousands of tiny holes used to install the electronic microchips that make the boards work.

Separately Wednesday, Dynamotion--an 11-year-old company that went public in a 1993 merger, said that British semiconductor products maker Johnson Matthey Electronics has ordered $9.1 million worth of its machines for delivery over the next 15 months.
